Review of IT organisation structures
Our initial findings highlighted a general lack of understanding of the existing service, which put considerable pressure on the department. There were inconsistencies in procedures and uncoordinated use of staff skills and funding resulting in excessive demand for services, duplication of effort and user frustration.
We carried out a complete review of the existing IT structure. All key service Managers and ICT staff had an input to the process through a series of workshops and one-to-one interviews. By highlighting the benefits of the proposed changes and new technology we were able to overcome any barriers to change. This process resulted in ownership of the outputs and recommendations and enabled performance management, which was welcomed by both users, and IT services.
Providing a single point of contact for CYC customers will result in significant time saving and thereby improved customer service. Reducing the duplication of effort and ensuring that the right people with the right skills were assigned to projects enabled CYC to provide best value with the financial resources available to them.
Roy Grant, Head of ITT Operational Services at CYC commented: “The guidance given by Socitm Consulting was invaluable. Their consultants worked flexibly with us and were quick to identify local issues and provide robust and well informed judgements that helped us to develop our future IT strategy”.
