ICT Manager role evaluation

The project issues
The Council had appointed an ICT Manager, but were concerned that the remuneration and benefits package did not adequately reflect market rates or the seniority and responsibility of the role. Socitm Consulting was commissioned to undertake an independent evaluation, taking into account local circumstances and national factors and assessing the strategic importance of the post to the organisation.

The Socitm Consulting solution
Socitm Consulting undertook a comparison of the Council’s remuneration package using the Socitm Salary Survey and market knowledge of the salary range for Heads of ICT and ICT Managers in similar organisations.

An evaluation of the role was also undertaken. This included an assessment of the new post holder’s experience and skills and the assumed responsibilities of the post and their impact within the organisation, together with the potential input this role could have to the future strategic direction of the authority.

Socitm Consulting's evaluation concluded that the remuneration package should indeed be improved.

The benefits to the client
By providing the Council with an independent evaluation of the roles, responsibilities and remuneration of the post of ICT Manager, Socitm Consulting was able to support the Council in improving the salary level for the post and securing formal recognition across the organisation for the contribution made by the post holder. The Council was also able to minimise potential recruitment and retention risks associated with this senior-level role.
