Having corporate and service-specific applications to meet the business needs and comply with interoperability standards

Learning

In an effort to make “Learning” more focused on the specific needs of our membership, we have reviewed our course offerings and launched a completely new programme for the next 12 months. The new programme offers a wider range of course, at more locations, and with more detail provided on each, to help you judge better who to nominate for the course, and the likely benefits to be achieved from it.

Financial systems options review

Client name:
Alnwick and Berwick Councils
Date published:
Sun, 27/09/2009
Lead consultant:
Terry Street

The project issues
Alnwick District Council (ADC) and Berwick Borough Council both have ASP contracts with the same supplier which expire in 2008. They wanted to review jointly the various options open to them and potentially a third authority - Castle Morpeth - with which Alnwick has a partnership arrangement for ICT services.

Socitm Consulting won a competitive tender to review future options for the two authorities including where the services should operate, e.g. remotely as under the ASP service or locally, and also to advise on the selection of software. All options had to comply with European Procurement Rules.

Social services application procurement

Client name:
London Borough of Waltham Forest

The project issues
The London Borough of Waltham Forest undertook a major change management programme, a crucial element of which was the procurement of a new computer system for its social services department. Capturing the requirements for the new system, articulating and verifying them effectively and writing the procurement specification needed due care and diligence.

Social Services system implementation review

Client name:
London Borough of Sutton
The London Borough of Sutton has a clear action plan for realising the full benefits of its Social Services system as a result of a Socitm Consulting review. By providing expertise in Social Services systems implementation and best practice, we were able to help the Council draw up a realistic timetable for completing the full system implementation and highlight actions for its most effective utilisation to improve quality of service and efficiency.

Procurement of Highways Schemes system

Client name:
Somerset County Council
Somerset County Council has procured a system to manage its Highways Scheme in house, with the assistance of expert procurement support from Socitm Consulting.

HR / Payroll procurement support

Client name:
Somerset County Council

The project issues
Following more than one aborted project to move from their traditional mainframe payroll system, the authority was anxious to ensure that they achieved the desired result.

The existing mainframe system had a definite final date due to an ending lease and the age of the system.

Revenues and Benefits best practice survey

Client name:
London Borough of Merton

The project issues
The London Borough of Merton commissioned us to conduct a market research survey to help them understand how local authorities that perform well in handling Revenues and Benefits achieve this. The survey would gather data concerning the implementation and use of Revenues and Benefits systems and uncover plans, issues and obstacles encountered by UK local authorities in this area.

The survey results would be used to inform discussion within the London Borough of Merton concerning its implementation of Revenues and Benefits software.

EDRM implementation review

Client name:
London Borough of Lewisham
The Council was keen to avoid difficulties with the organisation-wide introduction of EDRM as part of its transformation strategy. Socitm Consulting ran a facilitated workshop to identify potential problems and subsequently helped the Council to address them – the most significant requirement being the development of an Information Governance strategy and culture for the organisation. The Council is now adopting the recommendations in order to achieve the desired benefits of more flexible working practices, reduced office space requirements and greater efficiency.
