Learning
In an effort to make “Learning” more focused on the specific needs of our membership, we have reviewed our course offerings and launched a completely new programme for the next 12 months. The new programme offers a wider range of course, at more locations, and with more detail provided on each, to help you judge better who to nominate for the course, and the likely benefits to be achieved from it.
Project and programme management
"Needs particular methods and tools embedded in corporate culture. Corporate standard and programme support office also in place"
Social services application procurement
The project issues
The London Borough of Waltham Forest undertook a major change management programme, a crucial element of which was the procurement of a new computer system for its social services department. Capturing the requirements for the new system, articulating and verifying them effectively and writing the procurement specification needed due care and diligence.
Social Services system replacement and business process re-engineering
The project issues
Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council (WMBC) was rated 'poor' in its CPA in 2003, with Social Services being particularly referenced along with some other areas of the Council's work. At the time, the Council was already part way through a procurement process to replace its legacy mainframe-based client index system, seeking to obtain a system which would better serve the needs of practitioners and managers in their day to day work.
Project management benefits realisation
Building Schools for the Future programme support
The project issues
South Tyneside and Gateshead Councils are the sole remaining partnership scheme in Wave 1 of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. Uniquely the scheme also includes the local PCT as part of the proposed Local Education Partnership (LEP).
A major challenge for the programme was the very different nature of the current ICT arrangements across the scheme and the phasing and different size of the scheme in the two authorities.
Building Schools for the Future programme support
The project issues
Solihull had been selected as a Wave 1 authority for the BSF programme. Due to its unique circumstances the authority had decided not to set up a Local Education Partnership (LEP).
This required a different approach to the procurement of the programme and the need to consider how the authority would ensure that ICT was fully integrated with the new school building designs.
