ICT and information management strategy
"Strategies for ensuring appropriate ICT infrastructures, services and applications are in place, and that information is appropriately managed"

An ICT strategy should be a pragmatic tool for maximising return on investment - a costed roadmap to guide future spending on achieving your corporate objectives and priorities and meeting your customers’ current and emerging needs within a trusted and secure environment. It must seek to exploit committed investment in areas such as EDRM, flexible working and the paperless office, while leading from the front in new initiatives around avoidable contact, shared services and lean thinking.
An ICT strategy is only partly about the technology – about the corporate infrastructures and systems needs to support the council; it is more about addressing how information is managed in the council, and how the business processes of the council use that information to deliver services efficiently and effectively.
An ICT and Information Management strategy embraces both how the council's information assets are to be managed, and the technical and systems architectures needed to support them. It may be a single strategy, or two (or more) separate strategies, but will embrace:
- The corporate vision, objectives and strategy
- The implications of these for how information is to be structured, processed and protected
- The implications for the network infrastructure, computer applications, desktop systems, printing capabilities, and integration of all systems
- The management of the ICT service - its governance, management, service quality and performance
- The management of the council's information assets - the security, accuracy, timeliness etc of the information
