Skills management
"Skills for the ‘information age’ are different from traditional skills. Gaps are identified and filled"
The SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) framework is being widely adopted as a key building block for professionalism in ICT - defining the skills requirements for each of the main functions in ICT and providing an evidence base to support it. Supported by the Aspire software product in local government, many councils are now embracing SFIA as a means of ensuring that they are equipped with the appropriate ICT skills for the future. But what applies for ICT also applies for other professional groups - and increasignly there will be a demand for skills frameworks to prepare councils for what lies ahead. The skills demands in the Council of the Future will be different from those of today. There will be a greater emphasis on:
- Commissioning and procuring
- Service level management
- Contract management
- Customer needs analysis, community needs assessment
- Managing change
- Web publishing
- Customer service
- Benefits realisation
